Giving homemade custom photo cards is a slippery slope because once you start the trend of giving homemade custom photo cards, you just can’t quit.
I wouldn’t dare give a store bought card anymore. It isn’t that store bought cards are bad. I really like them. In fact, sometimes I like them so much that I buy them for myself. But, I have a history. I have a reputation for giving homemade custom cards. Family and friends keep them for years. Really. When I started this, I had no idea of the impact that I was making or the tradition I was creating.
I start feeling the pressure when it comes close to someone’s birthday. They invariably remind me that they have the first card I ever made them and they pull it out every year and “Just Love It”. So, as much as it is a compliment, it is a bit of pressure too. I ask myself “Will this year’s card be good enough?” Will it surpass last year’s card? What if they like a custom card I made someone else better?” Can you see the pressure this creates? People who don’t put a lot of thought into the perfect greeting card have it so much easier. Except, I agonize about it. I plan the card in my head for days. I have to create the perfect card. It has to say I really really care about you and your special day.
I have friends who have framed my cards. Imagine the pressure when I discover one of my cards in a real honest to goodness store bought frame hanging on their wall or sitting on their mantle. Seriously. I love it, but I can’t stand the pressure. And, it is happening more and more. Do I sound like a whiner? Be careful what you wish for! People might actually
like love your cards and sometimes your card will mean as much as your gift.
So, as much as I love to make custom photo cards, I would be happy to show you how to make your own special greeting card. Just be warned. It is addictive and you will never be able to go back to giving generic cards again.
What do you think? Will you take the challenge? I can help you through the process or you can ask me to do it for you. But, you have been warned 😉
